FAQs

What is micro-suction wax removal?

Micro-suction is an earwax removal technique using a low-pressure suction to gently and efficiently draw wax from the ear canals without the use of water. It is an effective, safe and completely painless way to have your ears cleaned professionally. Micro-suction is performed under a binocular microscope to ensure accurate depth perception and visibility.

Do I need to use drops to soften the wax?

In most cases, earwax does not need to be softened prior to you appointment. Unlike ear syringing, micro-suction and curette earwax removal is often more effective if the wax has not been softened with drops. In some cases drops may be necessary.

Why get micro-suction over ear syringing?

Micro-suction and curette is a safer procedure than ear syringing. Ear syringing (also referred to as ear irrigation) floods the ear canals with a water/saline solution. The pressure of syringing combined with wax and debris dislodged in the ear canal can increase the risk of ear infections, perforated eardrums, vertigo and temporary hearing loss.

Micro-suction is performed under binocular microscope to insure accurate depth perception and visibility and is the method preferred by Ear, Nose and Throat specialists. Our micro-suction equipment provides a low pressure suction to gently and efficiently draw wax from the ear canals without the use of water.

What causes earwax blockages?

There are many reasons why ears become blocked with wax. Some of the more common causes are incorrect cleaning techniques, narrow or bendy ear canals, surfers ear (exostosis), working in dusty environments, hairy ear canals and regular use of earplugs, earphones or hearing aids.

Does micro-suction earwax removal hurt?

No, micro-suction earwax removal does not hurt. Apart from the noise of the micro-suction equipment, most clients find micro-suction earwax removal to be a pleasant, non-invasive procedure.
